Gender Studies is no longer an optional elective; it is a core component of Pakistan’s top competitive examinations. Yet most candidates struggle with abstract Western theories that seem disconnected from local realities. This book – written by a former Punjab government secretary and legal practitioner – bridges that gap.
This second, updated edition of Gender Studies is specifically designed for candidates of CSS, PMS, PCS, SPSC, KPPSC, BPSC, and AJKPSC examinations. Authored by Mahboob Alam Nutkani – a PhD scholar at the University of the Punjab, former Secretary to the Government of Punjab, and an advocate of the Lahore High Court – the book combines academic rigour with practical, Pakistan‑centric insights.
The 310‑page volume (published by Al‑Faisal Publications, Lahore) covers all major areas of the syllabus:
- Theoretical foundations of gender studies (feminism, masculinity, queer theory)
- Gender equality and social justice
- Gender‑based violence and legal frameworks in Pakistan
- Women’s rights and empowerment
- Gender and development
- Pakistani case studies and grassroots realities
Unlike books that merely translate Western textbooks, Nutkani’s work integrates local laws, cultural contexts, and the author’s own experience in government and the courts. This makes it not just an exam‑passing tool but a genuine introduction to how gender operates in Pakistani society.
